Awakening in Central Africa
The Church of Central Africa is waking up for the message of God's faithfulness towards Israel! Christians for Israel began to work in Cameroon early 2007. Basically, Christians in Cameroon have been taught that, since Christ and the Apostle Paul criticized the Jews for their rejection of the Gospel, they are no longer the chosen people. The Church is the new people of God, the new Israel. These misconceptions have set the stage for a theological form of anti-Semitism in the church in Cameroon. None of the theological seminaries and Bible institutes in the country offers a course on Israel. There is an urgent need for the message of Godīs faithfulness to Israel.
Interestingly, Jewish communities exist all over Central Africa - in Mali, Nigeria, Congo, Ghana and Cameroon. In order to escape the Islamic conquest of North Africa many Jews settled in Central West Africa 1,200 years ago. The largest Israelite tribe in Cameroon is the Bassa people of Douala in the Littoral province, numbering 230,000 today.
