Biblical understanding about Israel
By Bishop Brother Elemi Samson.. The international president of Christians for Israel Rev. Willem J. J. Glashouwer has been with us in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire for a Christians for Israel meeting from June 18 through 24, 2014.
Rev. Willem arrived at Accra airport June 18, slept over in Accra and flew to Takoradi the next day for the meeting there. The meeting began in Takoradi on June 19 at 11.30 am with about 70 pastors and church workers participating. Each participant received copies of Why Israel? and Why End Times? donated by Christians for Israel Nigeria to assist the work within the region. Rev. Willem spoke for one hour each session three times a day. He spoke for two full days and half-day on June 21. There was a fundraising on June 21 to support the Jews at home in Israel project. The Ghanaian conference ended on June 21 at 3 pm with the presentation of the personally signed certificate of participation to the 70 participants.
Thanks to our able leader of Christians for Israel in Ghana Rev. Paul Anane!
Rev. Willem flew back to Accra for a lay-over so he could catch up with his flight to Abidjan in Cote d’Ivoire for the two day conference there on 23 and 24 June.
Rev. Willem was received at the airport in Abidjan by the Christians for Israel brethren there. Cote d’Ivoire is a French speaking country and all the brethren with him at the airport spoke French. But two of these brethren do understand English and could communicate very well with us. The leader of Christians for Israel in Cote d’Ivoire (Apostle Doumourou) neither speaks nor understands English but is literate in French.
The meeting in Abidjan was held in a beach cabin hotel which was an improvised arrangement two days prior to the conference, after the organizers lost the initial venue of the meeting for which they had already paid for to government personnel.
However, the meeting was a huge success with more than 80 pastors from different churches in attendance. Rev. Willem spoke twice each day with the help of a good French interpreter. The participants each had a French version of Why Israel? donated by Christians for Israel, Nigeria. All the participants received a personally signed certificate of participation at the end of the conference on June 24. They request that Rev. Willem return to Abidjan for a bigger conference.
It seems the French territories are hungry of this teaching as there was absolute openness among the participants as the Rev. Willem carefully explained the connection between Israel and the church, the Covenants of God with Israel, and the blindness of the church towards Israel. Most Ivorian Christians have been trained to believe that the Church/Gentiles is the “spiritual” or “new” Israel replacing Israel as God’s people - so they were completely astonished by Willem’s clear Biblical exegesis on this matter.
There is much work to be done in French-speaking Africa. With God’s help, much creativity and the support of our friends in the West, we hope to bring new understanding into the churches in this vast continent.
