Israel: A Sign of Hope
The Bible says that Israel will a blessing for all nations (Zechariah 8:13). But is this still the case today? If we look at today’s headlines and the current events, this thought seems old-fashioned and far-fetched. Israel, as it is presented to us in the daily news reports, seems to be more after power and war than after blessing and peace. Israel seems to be completely reviled. With this something becomes quite noticeable. The same slogans, already in use for thousands of years to exterminate the Jewish people, are used again today in new forms. It is as though the enemy seeks to tarnish what God intended Israel to be: a sign of hope for the entire world.
But lies do not endure, and darkness cannot stand before the light of the LORD. Because we have seen another reality as well. We have seen that Israel loves life more than death, that she fights for her people, even if they are no longer alive. We have seen that Israel is looking for solutions, willing to sacrifice and compromise in that pursuit. Furthermore, we have seen that she always holds on to hope, even if she is surrounded by darkness. We have seen that God is with them.
For this reason, Israel remains what Scripture declares her to be: a blessing for the nations, a sign of hope. The LORD is with Israel.
Shalom,
