Israel and the Church – Allies or Enemies? [DOWNLOAD]

Andrew Tucker and Kees de Vreugd - 3 February 2020

In the past as well as in the present, the relation of Christian churches to the Jews and Israel has often been ambiguous. The conviction that the church has taken the place of Israel in God’s salvific plan has been a strong force in theology and church life. Yet, others have always maintained hope for the restoration of Israel.

Today, we see the ambiguity in different approaches to the state of Israel: from stern support to stern criticism or even flat denial of the right of the Jewish state to exist.

In this study, we give an overview of theological viewpoints in different traditions, and point out how churches meddle in legal and political matters.
