God Took Over

Rev Kees de Vreugd - 1 July 2025

During the week following Pentecost, I led a study tour for pastors to Israel, as I have been privileged to do for a number of years. On Tuesday, at the beginning of the tour I told the group “It has never happend before that all appointments and program components were already confirmed before departure. I’ve got the feeling that there is something wrong.” We could not have imagined then that three days later almost the entire program was cancelled because everything was closed and meetings were banned everywhere for security reasons.

“All prior appointments were cancelled and spontaneous meetings with people we just happened to meet took their place”

All prior appointments were cancelled. People I had invited had to cancel because they wanted to be with their families in these difficult times. Their children needed all their attention. Spontaneous meetings with people we just happened to meet took their place, but also new appointments with others.

Kees de Vreugd, theologian and employee of Christians for Israel is momentarily in Israel for a study tour with pastors. Last Friday, June 13, we interviewed him and asked him about his experience with the Iranian attack on Israel. Today, June 25, we interviewed him again.

“I had devised a programme, but the Lord had something better for us”

“I had devised a programme, but the Lord had something better for us, as someone told us later. He took over and that is what we take home with us now. We have experienced a little bit of what Israel is going through for so long already. This allowed us to be more deeply connected to Israel.”

“We were impressed, again, by the determination and the resilience of the Jewish people. People just “carry on”. Jerusalem is being built. Israel lives, Am Israel Gai.”

“We were astonished about the moral arrogance, coupled with total spiritual blindness, of  politicians and media in our country. Once more we realise that the battle for Israel is a spiritual battle. We are determined to pass on all we have seen and heard. Defend Israel in our Churches. And above all, to proclaim the loyalty of the God of Israel.”

With your help, we can show our solidarity with Israel during this time of great need. Your generosity brings hope. Your support makes a real difference.

Thank you for your support and your prayers.
