Hostage Release Marks a Moment of Joy and Reflection

Christians for Israel International - 13 October 2025

After two long years of waiting alongside the people of Israel, today marks a moment of profound relief and shared joy: all living hostages have finally been freed. This milestone was made possible through the intervention of U.S. President Donald J. Trump, whose efforts contributed significantly to bringing this chapter to a close.

We join the people of Israel in celebrating the safe return of their sons. Their homecoming is an answer to many prayers to the Almighty and the enduring hope that has sustained so many through this difficult time.

At the same time, we mourn with the families whose loved ones did not survive the ordeal. Our hearts go out to those who, today, receive not a reunion but the return of a body. Their grief is immeasurable, and we stand with them in solemn remembrance.

As one of Israel’s political leaders movingly stated:

‘This is the day that the LORD has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it.’
Psalm 118:24

This Scripture, often recited during moments of national celebration, is also traditionally part of the prayers for today’s holiday of Sukkot – making today’s events all the more profound.
