IDF slays Hamas terrorist in Gaza; former hostage’s weapon found

The Israel Defense Forces on Monday eliminated a Hamas terrorist who planned to carry out an imminent attack against troops in the central Gaza Strip, the military announced.

The terrorist was targeted in accordance with the ceasefire agreement that took effect on Oct. 10, pausing two years of war sparked by the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led massacre in southern Israel.

Meanwhile, in northern Gaza, IDF troops discovered a booby-trapped compound containing the weapon of former hostage Capt. Daniel Peretz, whose body was returned to Israel on Oct. 13 under the truce agreement.

Peretz was killed in battle during the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, and his body was taken to Gaza.

On Sunday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir conducted a situational assessment in Gaza with the head of the Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor.

“We will not allow Hamas to reestablish itself. We have operational control over extensive parts of the Gaza Strip and we will remain on those defence lines. The Yellow Line is a new border line serving as a forward defensive line for our communities and a line of operational activity,” said Zamir.

“We must not be complacent. We must be prepared in all arenas and maintain readiness and alertness, while maintaining operational norms. The IDF is preparing for surprise attack scenarios—this is one of the cornerstones of the upcoming multi-year plan,” he added.
