This is only the beginning… – First Home Update

Valeria - 22 March 2022

Some time ago we were looking forward to accepting more and more olim from all over the world. Well, now we are working from dawn to dusk because of the huge aliyah wave from Ukraine. Unfortunately, we do that with broken hearts and tears in our eyes. And this is only the beginning of a long and difficult period.

“We are working from dawn to dusk because of the huge aliyah wave from Ukraine”

For now we have already met seven families from Ukraine who got here via Hungary, Moldova and Poland while more than twenty families that are already accepted and are still waiting for their departure in different countries with many other families applying for our First Home Program. We do our best to provide them with psychological and financial assistance. It’s hard to describe what these people feel – women and children fleeing the war without luggage, basic things, literally nothing. But what is more disturbing – no light in their eyes. We will try our best to bring this light back. We hope that in the near future their fathers, husbands, brothers and sons will join them in Israel and their return to their homeland will end happily.

At this very moment:
• Our team works 24/7.
• We receive more than 50 calls a day and work hard to answer and handle every one of them.
• We follow the flight schedule to be in touch with our incoming families and prepare everything for
their arrival.
• Our coordinator Yulia Berman takes care of the refugees from Ukraine in Budapest.
• All our kibbutzim are ready to accommodate more families than they usually do.
• Many new kibbutzim have joined First Home in the Homeland during this difficult time
and have already welcomed the first olim.

We are praying for their and our shalom every single minute and we believe that G_d hears us.
