15) He will judge

Rev Henk Poot - 12 December 2021
Sunday 12 December

Isaiah 9: 1-6

‘But with righteousness He will judge the needy’

Isaiah 11:4

The Messiah whom we expect will also be the ruler who will judge the world. There is so much injustice in the world. In big ways, but certainly also in small ways. There is so much suffering that is inflicted on people. It is perfectly understandable that people sometimes sigh: ‘If there is a God, why does this happen?’ It is a complaint that we also find in the Bible. You should read Psalm 44. Even in heaven, the question is asked when God will intervene and put an end to all sorrow (Revelation 6:10).

At the beginning of the Letter to the Romans, Paul lists the various sins that people commit and he speaks about the forbearance of God. The Lord sees it all, it does not pass Him by and no one must think that people can get away with it. If there is one people that has gone through terrible suffering, then it is the people of God, the Jewish people. And the Lord does not forget!

The Father has placed everything in the hands of the Son, and when He comes, He will judge all the suffering and injustice that will then surface and become visible in His light. Justice will be done and the earth and history will be cleansed. You can count on that!

And when He does it, Isaiah says, He will do it as a righteous King, who is full of God’s Spirit. His whole demeanor will breathe reverence for God.

Prayer:
‘You, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand.’ (Psalm 10:14). Let us pray Psalm 10 in the expectation of the coming of Christ.
