I am praying for the safety of my family – Update from Danielle Mor

Danielle Mor - 13 June 2025

2:17am, my phone rings, awakening me from my sleep in the Amsterdam hotel. On the other side of the phone is the voice of my husband Shlomi, calling to share that Israel is attacking Iran. A siren has sounded all across Israel. Not because Iran launched missiles or drones, but as the government of Israel wants to ensure that all the citizens are aware and on alert. And so 10 million citizens, awoken by the siren, are required to leave the warmth of their beds, carry their children in their arms and head to the nearest shelters. My husband is calling me from our safe room, where he, our two daughters and cat are now. He also shares he already has an alert in his phone requiring him to report for IDF reserve duty, as he serves in the Home Front Command. But how can he leave our daughters? I am far away, in Amsterdam and all flights are canceled.

We hang up. But though I am exhausted, I cannot go back to sleep. Am praying for the safety of my family. For the safety of Israel. For the safety of all Jewish communities who have been cruely targeted for over a year now by Antisemites. And am also praying for the people of Iran that have been held hostage for over 45 years, by a most evil fundamentalist government. Am praying that the land where my grandparents came to Israel from, the land my 92 year old grandmother still remembers as beautiful, with snow capped mountains, kush fields and friendly people, be returned to its people and that peace can reign from Jerusalem.
