On Tuesday evening, 27 May 2025, Marie-Louise Weissenböck, regional director Europe of Christians for Israel, the former head of government, Karl Nehammer and his former special envoy Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal were honoured for their “outstanding services to the State of Israel.”

According to the Israeli Embassy in Vienna, this prize is intended to honour people and organisations in Austria “who have made an extraordinary contribution to improving relations between Israel and Austria through their achievements.” It is also “an expression of gratitude for standing by Israel in these difficult times.”

Marie-Louise Weissenböck has been “a voice of moral clarity and courage for many years” and “a leader in the fight against antisemitism, against misinformation and for a better understanding of Israel’s history, its democratic values and the challenges it faces.”

Nehammer and Launsky-Tieffenthal were honoured “for their extraordinary commitment and principled leadership in the campaign to free the Israeli hostages in Gaza.”

The award was presented to the honourees at a reception to mark the 77th anniversary of Israel’s independence by Israel’s Ambassador to Austria, David Roet.
