Up until now, Paul’s train of thought seems to be logical: God has sent preachers who had proclaimed the good news to Israel. Israel did not receive the message. Therefore, the God of Israel used a foolish people, a non-nation, to provoke the chosen people to jealousy. This sounds like a good plan – if there were not this prophet who shouted: “Yes, but…”
