Weekly Update: The Iranian threat continues

16 December 2021

While the mainstream secular media seem to be obsessed with other issues, there is a massive conflict brewing in the Middle East.

The talks that resumed recently in Vienna to “revive” the JCPOA agreement with Iran have stalled completely.

In the meantime, Iran is proceeding with its project to achieve a nuclear weapon.

As Eran Lerman reports, the revolutionary Islamic Republic of Iranian “harbors regional and even global ambitions, and is openly and ardently committed to the destruction of Israel.”

The US and European representatives at the nuclear talks are frustrated over Iran’s unreasonable demands so far. Israeli and American officials are said to be studying military options for stopping the Iranian program.

US President Joe Biden has said he is willing to rejoin the JCPOA under the right circumstances but will not lift the sanctions until Iran reverts the progress it has made.

Israel opposes a US return to the deal without stronger safeguards. Prime Minister Bennett and his government have repeatedly been warning their friends and allies over recent days and weeks that Israel reserves the right to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities if that is what is needed to prevent Tehran from arming with nuclear weapons.

We need to keep this situation in our prayers. If Iran achieves a nuclear weapon this will present a huge existential threat to Israel and potentially trigger a regional and even global conflict. If Israel strikes Iranian facilities and installations, this could trigger a highly unpredictable and devastating sequence of events. Israel, the United States and European leaders need much wisdom in how to act.

The Iran Nuclear Deal: Biden Administration’s Fatal Mistakes

Majid Rafizadeh writes at Gatestone: “[T]he Biden administration’s objective is not to halt Iran’s deeply flawed nuclear program permanently — the biggest flaw being that in a few years Iran is permitted in its “sunset period” to have as many nuclear weapons as it likes — but just to limit Iran’s program for a period of time while removing the sanctions that hurt it economically.”

Israel, the US and the Iranian nuclear project: Back to basics

Eran Lerman (Jerusalem Institute for Strategic and Security) writes: “The revolutionary Islamic Republic of Iran is not like isolated North Korea, for whom the bomb is little more than an insurance policy for the survival of its bizarre ruling family. On the contrary, Tehran harbors regional and even global ambitions, and is openly and ardently committed to the destruction of Israel.”

Iran: Exporting Oil or Revolution?

Amir Taheri writes: “Tehran has been pumping cash and weapons into regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua and, until recently, Zimbabwe. It has also been in alliance with anti-war groups in Europe and North America while funding numerous non-Muslim politicians and celebrities across the Middle East. Non-Shiite Palestinian outfits such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad have also been on the payroll of the “Resistance Front” for decades.”

Iranian paper publishes ‘map of Israeli targets’

Damian Pachter writes in Israel Hayom: “The ‘Tehran Times’, identified with the Iranian regime, says that while Iran “does not intend to strike anyone,” it is prepared for a “quick and tough offensive” if attacked. “An intensification of Israeli military threats against Iran seems to suggest that the Zionist regime has forgotten that Iran is more than capable of hitting them from anywhere,” began an article published Tuesday in the Tehran Times, a newspaper identified with the Iranian regime.”

The Gift of Righteousness| Romans 9-11 with Johannes Gerloff #24
The righteousness of the one, true and only living God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, is not just part of His character. It is for us as human beings who are created in His image, who are created for communion with Him, also a standard that we will never reach. It is, therefore, a breath-taking discovery that from God’s point of view, righteousness is something He wants to share with us.

Scripture for the week:

Romans 10:5-13

5 Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.” 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
